About Us and Our Work

As You Climb strategies was founded by Selina Martinez (she/they/ella) after nearly a decade of social justice work in nonprofits, electoral campaigns, and community organizing. Throughout her life and career, she carried a lesson her Mexican immigrant parents instilled in her on the importance of lifting as you climb. Our name is a nod to the idea of lifting as you climb which means that as you grow, you support the people around you to grow too. Selina brings a wealth of experience in operationalizing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) in a variety of sectors like community work, nonprofit, philanthropy, electoral and advocacy campaigns, and public health. As a result, DEIB is embedded throughout all services. All services can be done in English or Spanish, in-person or virtual. Bilingual services can also be accommodated with additional time and cost. Discounts are available for organizations and individuals who are explicit about race equity.

I provide custom workshops for organizations on several topics regarding diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) as well as professional or organizational development. Workshops are hour and half interactive, action oriented, and provide a space for people to meaningfully connect with each other. When planning the workshop with me, you can expect me to ask questions that will help us co-create a workshop that understands the strengths and meets the needs of the participants.

Diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB) consulting is an opportunity to operationalize DEIB into your work and internal systems that ultimately lead to better experiences for staff, your partners, and the people you serve. It can often be difficult to know where to start. I work with your organization or coalitions to provide guidance and strategic direction on opportunities to move towards inclusion. We can help organizations embed DEIB into their: - internal systems like hiring & onboarding, - strategic plans, and - in current or new programs.

FACILITATION

FACILITATION

I help support organizations and coalitions in: - strategic planning of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging goals, - setting priorities, - creating group agreements that are rooted in the group's values, and - developing a theory of change.

Facilitated events include techniques that ensure that all voices are heard and that people feel safe and/or brave to share their thoughts and questions. Some techniques you will see in action are mindfulness practices, trauma-informed practices, & visuals.
